Our Mission
Helen House cultivates an inclusive, community-centered 2SLGBTQIA+ space where people of all ages can connect, create, and thrive. Through arts, education, advocacy, mutual support, resource connection, and intergenerational relationships, we foster belonging, promote equity, and empower LGBTQIA+ people and other marginalized communities.

Helen House began as a vision to create Central Washington’s first brick‑and‑mortar 2SLGBTQIA+ safe space. In a rural community where visibility and resources are limited, we exist to uplift voices, provide essential support, and celebrate togetherness. We are more than a space. We are a movement for belonging, care, and joy.

Who Is Helen?
Helen Wolfsehr Wise established a Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) chapter in Ellensburg, Washington in the early 1980s. She and her husband Don were among the few in the community who created a safe and confidential network to respond to the needs of LGBTQ youth, students, and professionals.

Helen’s ability to listen and assist those seeking support between youth and parents made a significant difference in countless lives. Her commitment to the LGBTQ community was well known, and it is in remembrance of her decades-long dedication that our space is named Helen House.
